What is Parkerizing? Parkerizing, otherwise known as Magnesium Phosphate, is a process that produces a dark charcoal grey finish on steel. This finish is very wear resistant and provides great protection against rust, as long as it is maintained with a light coating of oil. This process is very common on military rifles, and is the original finish for the M1 Garand. Most AR15s also sport parkerized barrels. Any part that is carbon steel (non stainless) can be parkerized. Unless there are unforeseen complications, such as excessive pitting in the metal of your firearm, the standard charge for this procedure is 140.00 plus sales tax.
